Remote not working · Brisbane northside
Garage door won’t open with the remote? Check these before anything else.
A remote that has stopped working is usually a battery, a lost code, or range. It is rarely a reason for a new opener. Two minutes of checking will tell you most of what you need.

What's usually behind it
Why remotes stop working.
- 01
Flat battery
The most common by far. The LED on the remote goes dim or doesn’t light when you press.
- 02
Lost code
A power cut or a memory clear on the opener, and the remote is no longer paired.
- 03
Range or interference
Works up close but not from the street. Often a failing battery, sometimes interference or a damaged receiver antenna.
- 04
Worn buttons or contacts
Years of thumbing wear out the button contacts. Works if you press hard, then not at all.
- 05
Receiver or board fault
If no remote works but the wall button does, the fault is in the opener’s receiver.
- 06
Lock-out engaged
Some wall consoles have a “lock” or vacation button that disables remotes. Easy to hit by accident.
Before you call
Check these first — they solve most remote problems.
- 01
The battery
Replace it with a fresh one of the same type, even if the LED still lights. Weak batteries cause intermittent range problems.
- 02
The wall button
If the wall button opens the door, the opener is fine — it’s the remote or the receiver. If nothing works, it’s the opener.
- 03
The lock-out
Check the wall console for a lock, vacation or holiday button and make sure it’s off.
- 04
Re-pair the remote
Most openers have a learn button on the unit. If you have the manual, try re-pairing. If not, call — we know the procedure for most brands.

Stuck? Bring the remote to the phone call
Tell us the opener brand and what the remote does when you press it. We can often say what it needs before anyone drives anywhere — and if it needs a visit, it’s a quick one.

Rarely
a reason for a new opener
We test the remote (battery, contacts, signal), re-pair it, and if it’s worn we replace it with the right one for your opener. If no remote works but the wall button does, the receiver in the opener is the problem — repairable on many units, or an add-on receiver can be fitted.
Rarely the opener.
A remote problem almost never means the opener needs replacing. If someone has told you it does, it’s worth a second opinion.

How it works
Straightforward from the first call.
- 01
Tell us what it’s doing
Call or send an enquiry. We'll ask how old the door is, what happened before the fault, and whether anything's been tried.
- 02
We inspect it properly
The whole door system — not just the part that looks broken. Developing wear gets pointed out, not hidden.
- 03
You get the price first
What's wrong, what needs doing now, what can wait. Then the price. No pressure to proceed.
- 04
Fixed, often on the spot
If parts are on the van, the repair is usually done the same visit. If not, we return promptly — generally within a couple of days.

0408 190 595Almost always a weak battery. Replace it first. If range is still poor, the receiver antenna on the opener may be damaged or the unit may need a look.
