Garage door stuck, stuck halfway or half open?
A door that stops part way is telling you something has let go or jammed. The right move is almost always the same: leave it exactly where it is, and call.
- Leave it where it is
- Springs, cables, tracks
- Made safe, then repaired

What's usually behind it
Why doors stop halfway.
- 01
Spring failed mid-travel
The door was moving, the spring let go, and the opener couldn’t hold the extra weight. The door stops — sometimes crooked.
- 02
Cable jumped the drum
One side goes slack, the door twists in the tracks and binds.
- 03
Roller out of the track
A worn or broken roller pops out; the panel it holds drops and wedges.
- 04
Bent track or obstruction
A knock, a loose bracket, or something in the track stops the door dead.
- 05
Roller door curtain jammed
On roller doors, the curtain has come out of a guide or creased and folded in the drum.
- 06
Opener limit fault
Occasionally the opener simply stops where it thinks the limit is — the door is fine, the settings aren’t.
Before you call
What to do with a stuck door.
- 01
Don’t press the button again
Every further attempt to move a jammed door bends panels, strips gears and can drop the door.
- 02
Keep clear underneath
A door held part way by a jammed roller or a slack cable can come down without warning. Keep people, pets and the car out from under it.
- 03
Look from a distance
Is one side higher than the other? Is a cable hanging loose? Is there a gap in the spring? Tell us on the phone — it helps us bring the right parts.

Do not try to free it
Levering a stuck door, pulling on cables or releasing the opener on a door that’s twisted in its tracks is how people get hurt. Leave it, and call.

Made safe before anything else.

Safe first
load off the door before any repair
Cause fixed
not just the jam
1 visit
for most stuck doors
The first job is to take the load off the door safely — supporting it, releasing tension in the right order, and getting it back into its tracks without creasing panels or curtain. Then the cause gets fixed: the spring, the cable, the roller, the track.
And the reason it happened.
A door rarely jams for one reason. A cable that jumped usually jumped because a spring was tired; a roller that popped out usually did so because the track was out. We fix the cause as well as the symptom, so it isn’t back next month.
Usually the same visit.
With springs, cables, rollers and common parts on the van, most stuck doors are freed and repaired in one visit.

How it works
Straightforward from the first call.
- 01
Tell us what it’s doing
Call or send an enquiry. We'll ask how old the door is, what happened before the fault, and whether anything's been tried.
- 02
We inspect it properly
The whole door system — not just the part that looks broken. Developing wear gets pointed out, not hidden.
- 03
You get the price first
What's wrong, what needs doing now, what can wait. Then the price. No pressure to proceed.
- 04
Fixed, often on the spot
If parts are on the van, the repair is usually done the same visit. If not, we return promptly — generally within a couple of days.
