Roller door repairs · Brisbane northside

Roller door repairs — jammed, heavy, noisy or off the drum.

Roller doors are simple, which is why they last — and why the same handful of faults account for almost every call. We fix them on the door you have, and we know the older ones.

  • Curtain, spring, guides and drum
  • Older Gliderol & B&D doors

What's usually behind it

The five roller door faults we see most.

  1. 01

    Spring tension gone

The door is suddenly heavy to lift, or the opener strains and stops. The spring inside the drum has broken or lost tension.

  2. 02

    Curtain out of the guides

One side has jumped its track — often after a knock or a strong wind. The door jams or runs crooked.

  3. 03

    Worn or damaged guides

Bent, corroded or dry guide tracks make the curtain drag, squeal and eventually stick.

  4. 04

    Drum and axle wear

Play in the axle bearings or a damaged drum makes the door rattle, bind or roll unevenly.

  5. 05

    Opener out of adjustment

On automated rollers, force and limit settings drift as the door ages — the motor gives up before the door reaches the floor.

Before you call

Safe to check before you call.

  1. 01

    Look at both guides

Is the curtain sitting in the track on both sides, all the way up? A visible bulge or a side that has popped out points to a guide problem.

  2. 02

Try it by hand — gently

With the opener disengaged, a healthy roller door lifts with moderate effort and stays put where you leave it. If it's very heavy, stop: that's the spring.

  3. 03

    Listen

A dry squeal is usually the guides. A grinding or clunking from the drum end is the axle or drum. Both are repairable.

Don't force a jammed roller door

Forcing a curtain that has jumped its guide creases the steel and turns a small repair into a curtain replacement. Leave it where it is and call.

How we repair roller doors

Repaired on the door you have, not replaced by reflex.

  • 1 visit

    for most roller door repairs

  • Any age

    older doors repaired, not condemned

  • Balanced

    after every spring job

Most roller doors on the northside are 10, 15 or 20+ years old and still perfectly serviceable. The spring, guides, drum and axle are all replaceable, and the common parts are on the van. A door only gets recommended for replacement when the curtain itself is beyond straightening — and we'll show you why.

Springs and re-tensioning

A roller door spring lives inside the drum under real tension. We replace or re-tension it with the right tools, then balance the door so it holds anywhere in its travel. If your door is automated, the opener is re-set afterwards so it isn’t fighting the door.

Older Gliderol, B&D and Stratco doors

We've worked on these systems for a long time, including the older generations. Parts are generally still available, and a roller door from the early 2000s is usually well worth repairing.

How it works

Straightforward from the first call.

  1. 01

    Tell us what it’s doing

Call or send an enquiry. We'll ask how old the door is, what happened before the fault, and whether anything's been tried.

  2. 02

    We inspect it properly

The whole door system — not just the part that looks broken. Developing wear gets pointed out, not hidden.

  3. 03

    You get the price first

What's wrong, what needs doing now, what can wait. Then the price. No pressure to proceed.

  4. 04

    Fixed, often on the spot

If parts are on the van, the repair is usually done the same visit. If not, we return promptly — generally within a couple of days.

  • Almost certainly the spring inside the drum has broken or lost tension. Stop using it — an opener will burn out trying to lift it, and lifting a heavy roller door by hand can hurt. We replace or re-tension the spring and balance the door.
