How often? · Brisbane northside

How often should a garage door be serviced?

For a typical family home, every 12 to 18 months is a sensible rhythm. Older doors, heavily used doors, and doors that have started making noise benefit from yearly. That’s the honest answer — the detail is below.

  • 12–18 months for most homes
  • Yearly for older or busy doors
  • Sooner if something changes

What changes the answer

Five things that decide your door’s interval.

  1. 01

    Age

Doors and openers past 10 years benefit from yearly attention — the springs, rollers and settings drift faster.

  2. 02

    Use

A door opened a dozen times a day is doing a lot more cycles than one used twice. Springs are rated in cycles, not years.

  3. 03

    Environment

Salt air on the Redcliffe peninsula, dust on a semi-rural block, full sun on a west-facing door — all speed up wear.

  4. 04

    Door type

Sectional doors have more moving parts (rollers, hinges) than roller doors, and tend to want a little more attention.

  5. 05

    Symptoms

Noise, slowness, shuddering, a door that’s got heavier. Any of these mean “now”, regardless of the calendar.

A straight answer

Not a subscription, just a sensible rhythm.

We don't sell service plans, and we won't tell you a door needs servicing every six months when it doesn't. A well-set-up door on a typical home is fine on a 12–18 month cycle; older and busier doors do better yearly. When we service your door, we'll tell you what rhythm suits it.

What a service doesn’t do.

It doesn't guarantee the door never fails — springs break, motors die, and no honest technician will promise otherwise. What it does is catch most wear early, keep the door safe and quiet, and give you warning of what's coming.

Between services.

Keep the tracks clean, listen for changes, and stop using the door if it suddenly gets heavy or you hear a bang. Those are the times to call, whatever the calendar says.

How it works

Straightforward from the first call.

  1. 01

    Tell us what it’s doing

Call or send an enquiry. We'll ask how old the door is, what happened before the fault, and whether anything's been tried.

  2. 02

    We inspect it properly

The whole door system — not just the part that looks broken. Developing wear gets pointed out, not hidden.

  3. 03

    You get the price first

What's wrong, what needs doing now, what can wait. Then the price. No pressure to proceed.

  4. 04

    Fixed, often on the spot

If parts are on the van, the repair is usually done the same visit. If not, we return promptly — generally within a couple of days.

  • A new door is usually fine for the first couple of years, though a check after the first year picks up any settling in the installation. After that, the normal rhythm applies.
