Garage door lock jammed, seized or won’t release?
Old T-handle locks seize, latch rods slip out of adjustment, keys snap. It’s a small job — but forcing a stuck lock bends the rods and turns it into a bigger one. Call, and we’ll sort it.

What's usually behind it
Why garage door locks fail.
- 01
Seized barrel
Years of dust and weather. The key won’t turn, or turns stiffly.
- 02
Latch rods out of adjustment
The handle turns but the latches don’t clear the frame — the door won’t open. Or they don’t engage — it won’t lock.
- 03
Snapped key
Usually from forcing a seized barrel.
- 04
Worn or broken handle
The T-handle spins without moving the latches.
- 05
Roller door lock
Centre locks on roller doors jam when the curtain is slightly out of its guides.
- 06
Door out of alignment
A crooked door means the latches miss their keepers. The lock isn’t the problem — the door is.
Before you call
Safe to check before you call.
- 01
Don’t force it
A stiff key or handle forced with pliers snaps the key or bends the latch rods.
- 02
Check the door is sitting straight
If the door is crooked or hasn’t closed fully, the latches won’t line up. That’s a door problem, not a lock problem.
- 03
Is it an automated door?
On many automated doors the manual lock should stay unlocked — running the opener against a locked door damages both. If the door won’t move and the lock is engaged, that may be why.

Repair, adjust or replace — smallest fix first.

replace only when worn out
Any door
sectional, roller and tilt locks
Most lock calls are an adjustment: latch rods re-set so the latches clear and engage properly, a barrel freed and lubricated. Where the barrel or handle is worn out, we replace the lock — matching the door type, and keying to your existing key where possible.
Locks on automated doors.
If your door has an opener, the opener itself holds the door closed and the manual lock should generally stay unlocked. We’ll check the set-up and, if you want extra security, talk through options that don’t fight the opener.

How it works
Straightforward from the first call.
- 01
Tell us what it’s doing
Call or send an enquiry. We'll ask how old the door is, what happened before the fault, and whether anything's been tried.
- 02
We inspect it properly
The whole door system — not just the part that looks broken. Developing wear gets pointed out, not hidden.
- 03
You get the price first
What's wrong, what needs doing now, what can wait. Then the price. No pressure to proceed.
- 04
Fixed, often on the spot
If parts are on the van, the repair is usually done the same visit. If not, we return promptly — generally within a couple of days.
